About the Project

Fiserv, Inc. is a provider of financial data processing systems and related information management services and products to banks, credit unions, mortgage firms, and savings institutions worldwide. The bulk of their business uses host-based applications accessible via 3270 terminals.

Fiserv contacted MAYA to develop a browser based solution to replace the 3270 terminal portion of their process. The first part of the project entailed developing a prototype to demonstrate the idea to show at Fiserv’s annual conference.

The goal of the demo was to showcase a design that provided an easier to use and less intimidating interface than the 3270-based design. The main design challenge was providing navigation to over two thousand 3270 screens. In the 3270 implementation users needed to know a code for each screen and used a command line for all interaction. A high turnover rate of employees ensured that training was constantly necessary.

We had six weeks to go from concept to prototype.

My Role on the Project

My role on the team was as both interaction designer and project manager. I was responsible for project success, client satisfaction, timely completion, and meeting budget.
